Elisa Ochoa
A Portuguese visual artist, curator and heritage researcher, born in Lisbon in 1974. She works across painting, drawing, illustration, photography and installation — her subjects nature, the forest and the sea, “drawing that is neither abstract nor figurative”, held in the tension of the uncategorised artwork.
Ochoa read Philosophy at the Universidade Católica in Lisbon and took a postgraduate degree in Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art at the University of Lisbon, later completing a master’s in Museology and Museography at the Lisbon Faculty of Fine Arts. She taught performing arts in New York public schools for five years, led art-and-philosophy workshops for children in Paris and Barcelona, and was a researcher at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum.
She has exhibited since 2008 in Lisbon, New York, Barcelona, Palma, Setúbal and across Portugal, and curates and represents other artists. “Profundezas” — depths — was shown at the Museu Quinta de Santiago in Matosinhos in 2022. Originals are sold directly from the studio. Each work ships from Lisbon, crated and fully insured, with a certificate of authenticity.
